Rumination Syndrome

Rumination Syndrome is a functional gastrointestinal disorder where a person repeatedly regurgitates food they have recently swallowed, chews it again, and then either re-ingests it or spits it out. This behavior is not due to a medical condition but often arises from psychological factors or learned habits. It typically occurs shortly after eating and can lead to discomfort and social embarrassment. Treatment often involves behavioral therapy to address the underlying causes and help alter the patterns associated with eating and digestion.
