rudder
A rudder is a scientific device used to steer and control the direction of a boat or ship. It is a flat piece, usually made of metal or wood, attached to the stern (back) of the vessel. When the helmsman turns the wheel or handles, the rudder pivots left or right, changing the water flow around it. This creates a force that turns the boat in the desired direction. Essentially, the rudder acts like a steering wheel for a vehicle, allowing precise control over the vessel's course in the water.
