Rosenwald Fund

The Rosenwald Fund was established in 1917 by philanthropist Julius Rosenwald to support the education of African Americans in the segregated South. It primarily funded the construction of schools, community centers, and teacher training programs. Working with educator Booker T. Washington, the fund helped develop over 5,300 schools, significantly improving educational opportunities for Black children during a time of widespread discrimination. The initiative aimed to enhance the quality of education and empower African American communities, leaving a lasting legacy in the fight for equality and access to education. The fund was dissolved in 1948.
