Romneycare
Romneycare, officially known as the Massachusetts Health Care Reform Law, was enacted in 2006 under then-Governor Mitt Romney. It aimed to provide nearly universal health coverage in Massachusetts by requiring individuals to have health insurance, expanding Medicaid, and establishing health insurance exchanges. The law offered subsidies to help low-income residents afford coverage. It set a precedent for the Affordable Care Act (ACA) at the national level. While it increased coverage, it also faced criticism for rising costs and issues with affordability, reflecting the complexities of health care reform.
