Romano-Ward syndrome

Romano-Ward syndrome is a genetic condition that affects the heart's electrical system, leading to irregular heartbeats or arrhythmias. These abnormal rhythms can cause fainting, seizures, or, in rare cases, sudden cardiac arrest. It is inherited in an autosomal dominant manner, meaning a person needs only one copy of the affected gene to be at risk. Unlike some other heart conditions, Romano-Ward syndrome typically does not affect the structural parts of the heart. Proper diagnosis and management, including medications or devices like defibrillators, can help reduce the risk of severe events.
