Romani history

The Romani people, often referred to as Roma, are a nomadic ethnic group with origins tracing back to northern India, migrating to Europe around 1,000 years ago. They developed distinct cultures and languages but faced widespread discrimination and persecution throughout history, notably during the Holocaust, when hundreds of thousands were killed. Over the centuries, Romani communities have maintained a rich cultural heritage, including music and storytelling. Today, they continue to advocate for their rights and recognition while striving to combat stereotypes and improve their social and economic conditions across Europe and beyond.
