ROM

Read-Only Memory (ROM) is a type of computer storage that retains data even when the device is powered off. Unlike a computer's temporary memory (RAM), which clears when the device shuts down, ROM holds essential instructions and data permanently or semi-permanently. It is used to store firmware or system startup programs that are necessary for the computer to initialize and operate properly. ROM is non-volatile and cannot be modified or erased easily, ensuring that critical code remains safe and accessible throughout the device’s lifespan.
