Rollo

Rollo, born around 860 AD, was a Viking leader who became the first ruler of what is now Normandy, France. Originally a Norse raider, he negotiated a treaty with the French king, Charles the Simple, in 911, which granted him land in exchange for allegiance and protection against other Viking threats. Rollo is significant for establishing Viking influence in France and laying the groundwork for the future Duchy of Normandy, which played a crucial role in European history, particularly in the events leading to the Norman Conquest of England in 1066.
