
Rohith Vemula
Rohith Vemula was an Indian PhD student at the University of Hyderabad who became a symbol of student activism and social justice in India. In January 2016, he tragically took his own life, which sparked widespread protests and debates about caste discrimination, mental health, and the treatment of marginalized students in educational institutions. Rohith belonged to a Dalit community, and his death highlighted systemic issues regarding caste-based discrimination in India.
