Roger of Salerno

Roger of Salerno was a medieval military leader and the first prince of Antioch from 1112 to 1119. As a Norman knight, he played a key role in defending the Crusader state of Antioch during the Crusades. Known for his strong leadership and military skills, he helped strengthen the city’s defenses and expand its influence. His leadership was marked by efforts to maintain stability amid ongoing conflicts with Muslim neighbors. Roger’s reign, though relatively short, was significant in shaping the early history of the Principality of Antioch and its role in Christian-Muslim relations during the Crusades.
