rocky planets
Rocky planets, also known as terrestrial planets, are planets made mostly of rock and metal. They have solid, dense surfaces with mountains, craters, and valleys. Examples include Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. These planets are generally smaller than gas giants and have tightly packed materials, allowing them to support features like an atmosphere and surface liquids (like water). Their composition gives them aging crusts and layered interiors. Because of their solid surfaces, they’re more conducive to geological activity and potential habitability compared to gaseous planets.
