Robert Owen (Industrialist)

Robert Owen (1771-1858) was a Welsh industrialist and social reformer known for his pioneering ideas on labor rights and education. He managed a cotton mill in New Lanark, Scotland, where he implemented progressive practices like reasonable working hours, better living conditions, and educational programs for workers and their children. Owen believed that improving workers' lives would enhance productivity and create a more equitable society. He is often considered one of the founders of the cooperative movement and advocated for the establishment of “communes” based on shared ownership and social welfare principles, influencing future labor movements.
