
Rigoberta Menchú
Rigoberta Menchú is a K'iche' Maya woman from Guatemala, known for her activism for Indigenous rights and social justice. Born in 1959, she experienced the violent repression of Indigenous peoples during the Guatemalan Civil War. Her memoir, "I, Rigoberta Menchú," brought international attention to the struggles of Indigenous communities. In 1992, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to promote Indigenous rights and cultural identity. Menchú has become a symbol of resilience, advocating for equality and justice not only in Guatemala but for Indigenous peoples worldwide.
