RIC (Rest, Ice, Compression)
RIC stands for Rest, Ice, and Compression, a common first aid approach for injuries like sprains or strains. Rest involves avoiding activity that worsens the pain to prevent further damage. Ice helps reduce swelling and numb pain by constricting blood vessels, and should be applied for 15-20 minutes every few hours initially. Compression involves wrapping the injured area with an elastic bandage to limit swelling and provide support, ensuring it’s snug but not too tight to cut off circulation. Together, these steps help manage pain, decrease swelling, and promote healing in the early stages following injury.
