Rib cage
The rib cage is a bony structure in the chest that surrounds and protects vital organs such as the heart and lungs. It consists of 12 pairs of ribs, which are curved bones attached to the spine at the back and most connect to the sternum (breastbone) in the front. The rib cage provides support for the upper body, assists in breathing by expanding and contracting, and offers structural stability. Its design allows flexibility while safeguarding internal organs from injury.
