Rhizopogon

Rhizopogon is a genus of fungi, commonly known as truffle-like mushrooms, that form symbiotic relationships with the roots of certain trees, especially pines. These fungi help trees absorb water and nutrients more efficiently, enhancing tree health, while the fungi benefit from the sugars produced by the trees. Typically found underground, Rhizopogon species are important components of forest ecosystems, contributing to soil health and nutrient cycling. They are also valued in some regions for their edible spores, which can be foraged similarly to true truffles.
