Revolutionary Calendar

The Revolutionary Calendar was a 12-month system introduced during the French Revolution, from 1793 to 1806, aiming to break away from traditional Gregorian dating. It divided the year into ten months of 30 days each, with five or six extra days at year's end called "complements" to align with the solar year. Months were named after natural elements or seasonal features, and each month was divided into three ten-day weeks called "décades." The calendar sought to promote rationality and civic virtue, but it was eventually abandoned in favor of the Gregorian calendar due to practicality and resistance.
