Reverse Shoulder Prosthesis
A reverse shoulder prosthesis is a type of shoulder replacement designed for patients with shoulder joint damage, especially when rotator cuff muscles are severely torn or ineffective. Unlike traditional implants, it switches the normal ball-and-socket structure, attaching the ball component to the shoulder blade (scapula) and the socket to the upper arm bone (humerus). This design allows other muscles to power shoulder movement, improving stability and lifting ability. It’s commonly used to reduce pain and restore function in cases of complex shoulder problems, such as rotator cuff tears combined with arthritis.
