Rett Syndrome
Rett Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that primarily affects girls and leads to severe cognitive and physical impairments. Typically, signs appear between six months and two years of age, following normal early development. Children may lose acquired skills, such as speaking and hand coordination, and develop repetitive movements, like hand wringing. Other symptoms can include problems with walking, breathing irregularities, and social withdrawal. The condition is linked to mutations in the MECP2 gene. While there is no cure, therapies can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life for those affected.
