retinal veins

Retinal veins are blood vessels that carry used, deoxygenated blood away from the retina—the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye responsible for vision. They work alongside retinal arteries, which bring oxygen-rich blood to the retina. The veins are part of the eye's microcirculation system, ensuring waste removal and proper eye function. Any abnormalities in retinal veins, like blockage or dilation, can indicate eye health issues or systemic conditions such as hypertension or diabetes. Their health and appearance are often examined during eye exams to assess overall vascular and ocular health.
