Republic of Vietnam Air Force

The Republic of Vietnam Air Force (RVNAF) was the aerial military branch of South Vietnam, active from 1955 to 1975. It was responsible for defending South Vietnam through missions like air support, reconnaissance, and transportation during the Vietnam War. Comprising fighter jets, transport planes, and helicopters, the RVNAF trained with assistance from the United States. Despite efforts and some effectiveness, it struggled with maintaining equipment and experienced challenges as North Vietnamese forces advanced. The RVNAF’s operational role ended with the fall of Saigon in 1975, marking the conclusion of South Vietnam’s independent military aviation efforts.
