Regional Internet Registries (RIRs)
Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) are organizations responsible for managing and distributing the allocation of IP addresses within specific geographic areas. They ensure that IP addresses are allocated fairly, efficiently, and according to global policies. RIRs also maintain databases of IP address assignments and support the growth and sustainability of the internet's addressing system. There are five main RIRs worldwide, each serving different regions, such as ARIN for North America and RIPE NCC for Europe. Their role is essential for maintaining the stability, security, and organized growth of the internet's infrastructure.
