Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI)

The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is a cooperative effort among several U.S. states to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from power plants. It works through a cap-and-trade system, where states set a limit on emissions and allow power plants to buy and sell allowances for these emissions. The goal is to incentivize cleaner energy production and lower overall emissions, helping to combat climate change. RGGI also generates funds that states can use for clean energy projects, energy efficiency programs, and assisting communities affected by the transition to a greener economy.
