Refugee Eligibility

Refugee eligibility is based on having a well-founded fear of persecution due to race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion. To qualify, an individual must be outside their home country and unable or unwilling to return because of these fears. While each country’s criteria may vary, generally, a formal process assesses the person’s circumstances, evidence, and credibility to determine if they meet the legal definition of a refugee. This process aims to protect those fleeing danger while ensuring proper due diligence.
