Reflected Light Meter

A reflected light meter measures the amount of light bouncing off a subject to determine proper exposure. When you point a camera's meter at a scene, it evaluates the brightness of the surfaces within the frame—such as skin, foliage, or buildings—and suggests the optimal camera settings (like aperture and shutter speed) to capture a balanced image. This type of meter is commonly built into cameras and is especially effective for evenly lit scenes. It helps photographers avoid underexposed or overexposed photos by providing real-time feedback based on the light reflected from the subject itself.
