Rectus Abdominis
The rectus abdominis is a long, flat muscle located in the front of the abdomen, running vertically from the lower ribs to the pubic bone. Commonly known as the "six-pack" muscle, it helps with bending the spine forward (like doing a crunch) and stabilizes the pelvis during movement. It also plays a role in increasing intra-abdominal pressure, aiding in breathing and core stability. This muscle is essential for core strength, posture, and movement, and can be strengthened through exercises like sit-ups and leg raises.
