Rape of Biafra
The Rape of Biafra refers to widespread sexual violence committed during Nigeria's Biafran War (1967-1970), a conflict primarily between Nigeria and the secessionist state of Biafra. As Biafra sought independence, Nigerian forces and others targeted civilians, often using sexual violence as a weapon of war. Women and girls were abducted, raped, and assaulted, with these acts used to terrorize populations, undermine morale, and assert control. This brutal aspect of the war resulted in immense human suffering and has left lasting scars in the affected communities.
