Ramón y Cajal

Santiago Ramón y Cajal was a pioneering Spanish neuroscientist who studied the structure of the nervous system. He is renowned for developing detailed descriptions of neurons, the specialized cells in our brains and nerves, and establishing that they are individual units rather than a continuous network. His work laid the foundation for modern neuroscience by illustrating how neurons connect and communicate through synapses. Cajal's discoveries earned him the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1906, and his detailed drawings and insights continue to influence our understanding of how the nervous system functions.
