Rajputana Agency

The Rajputana Agency was a political and administrative unit established by the British in India during the 19th century. It encompassed the princely states of Rajputana, which now forms part of the modern Indian state of Rajasthan. Created in 1820, the Agency coordinated British relations with these semi-autonomous states, providing a framework for governance, law, and order while allowing local rulers to maintain some autonomy. The Agency played a crucial role in the British strategy of indirect rule, contributing to the stability of the region and facilitating British interests in northern India until India’s independence in 1947.
