rainforest layers

Rainforests have four main layers, each hosting different plants and animals. The emergent layer is the topmost, with tall trees standing above the canopy, receiving the most sunlight. The canopy, just below, is a dense roof of leaves that blocks much sunlight and is home to many species. Beneath it is the understory, a darker, humid zone where smaller trees and plants thrive. At the bottom is the forest floor, a dark, moist area with limited light, where decomposing matter provides nutrients for fungi, insects, and larger animals. These layers create a diverse, vibrant ecosystem.
