Raghunath Rao's rebellion (1773-1774) was a revolt against the Peshwa, the prime minister of the Maratha Empire, led by Raghunath Rao who sought to regain power after losing influence. He challenged the authority of Madhavrao I, the Peshwa, and attempted to establish his own control over the empire. The rebellion involved military conflicts and political intrigue, but ultimately Raghunath Rao was defeated and his efforts to reclaim dominance failed. The episode highlighted internal divisions within the Maratha leadership and reinforced Madhavrao’s position as the ruling Peshwa.
