Radio Free Europe

Radio Free Europe (RFE) is a broadcasting organization established during the Cold War to provide news and information to countries behind the Iron Curtain, where local media were often controlled by authoritarian regimes. Funded mainly by the U.S. government, RFE aimed to promote free expression, democracy, and accurate news in Eastern Europe and other regions with limited press freedom. Today, it operates as part of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, continuing to deliver independent journalism to countries where access to unbiased information is restricted. Its mission is to support open societies by providing reliable news and fostering democratic values.
