Raúl Castro is a Cuban politician and revolutionary, born on June 3, 1931. He served as the leader of Cuba from 2008 to 2018, succeeding his brother Fidel Castro. Raúl was a key figure in the Cuban Revolution, which overthrew the Batista regime in 1959. He held various military and governmental positions, eventually becoming Minister of the Armed Forces. As president, he initiated economic reforms to update Cuba’s socialist economy, allowing for more private enterprise while maintaining the Communist Party’s control. Raúl Castro stepped down in 2018, marking the end of an era for Cuban leadership.
