The Responsibility to Protect (R2P) is an international principle that Aims to prevent genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity. It emphasizes that states have a duty to protect their populations from such atrocities. When a government is unable or unwilling to do so, the international community has a moral obligation to step in, often through diplomatic means or, as a last resort, military intervention, to Safeguard vulnerable populations and uphold human rights.
