Queen ant
A queen ant is the reproductive female of an ant colony, responsible for laying eggs. She is typically larger than other ants and can live for several years, sometimes even decades. Queen ants mate with males during a nuptial flight, after which the males usually die. The queen then establishes a new colony by laying eggs, which develop into workers and future queens. Unlike worker ants, she primarily focuses on reproduction and does not partake in foraging or defending the colony. Her presence is vital for the colony’s growth and sustainability.
