Quality Payment Program

The Quality Payment Program (QPP) is a U.S. healthcare initiative that aims to improve patient care and reduce costs by rewarding healthcare providers based on the quality of the services they deliver rather than the quantity. It was established under the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015. Providers can participate through two pathways: the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) or Advanced Alternative Payment Models (APMs). MIPS evaluates performance based on patient outcomes, use of technology, and care improvement, while APMs encourage innovative care delivery methods. Ultimately, QPP seeks to enhance healthcare quality for patients.
