Qiyas (analogical reasoning)
Qiyas, or analogical reasoning, is a method used in Islamic law to derive rulings for new situations by comparing them to previously established cases. It involves identifying a common underlying cause or principle between a known case (called the "asl") and the new case (called the "far’), and then applying the same ruling. This process helps ensure consistency and flexibility in legal judgments, allowing authorities to adapt principles to contemporary issues while grounded in foundational teachings. Essentially, Qiyas bridges existing knowledge with new circumstances through logical comparison.
