Pyu language

The Pyu language was spoken by the Pyu people of ancient Myanmar (Burma), primarily between the 2nd century BCE and the 9th century CE. It is recognized through inscriptions and texts written in the Pyu script, an early Indian-influenced script used to record religious and administrative content. As an extinct language, Pyu provides valuable insights into early Southeast Asian history and culture, showing connections with Indian practices. Linguistically, it is considered part of the Tibeto-Burman language family, though much about its structure and vocabulary remains academically studied and not fully understood.
