Pure Theory of Law

The Pure Theory of Law, developed by Hans Kelsen, views law as a system of norms or rules that are logically interconnected, independent of moral, political, or social influences. It emphasizes that law should be understood as a structured set of hierarchical principles, with a fundamental "basic norm" ("Grundnorm") underpinning all legal rules. This approach seeks to define law solely by its form and structure, avoiding subjective judgments about justice or morality. Essentially, it treats law as a self-contained, logical system that can be studied and understood without reference to external factors.
