Ptolemy II Philadelphus was an ancient Egyptian ruler who reigned from 283 to 246 BCE as the second monarch of the Ptolemaic dynasty. He was the son of Ptolemy I and the Greek princess Berenice I. Ptolemy II is known for promoting arts, culture, and scholarship, most notably by establishing the famous Library of Alexandria and advancing the center of learning in Egypt. His reign saw advancements in sciences, literature, and the arts, as well as the expansion of trade and military power. He was also known for his marriage alliances, strengthening ties with other kingdoms.
