Ptolemy (Geographer)
Claudius Ptolemy was a Greek geographer, mathematician, and astronomer who lived in the 2nd century AD. His most notable work, the "Geographia," compiled knowledge about the world's geography and introduced a system of latitude and longitude, which greatly influenced map-making. Ptolemy’s maps were based on the knowledge of his time and served as references for centuries. He also advanced the notion of a geocentric universe, where Earth was believed to be at the center of the cosmos. His impact on geography and astronomy laid foundational concepts that shaped exploration and navigation in later centuries.
