Psychological Control

Psychological control refers to ways in which a person, often a parent or authority figure, tries to influence or regulate another person’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors through non-physical means. This can include tactics like guilt-tripping, manipulating emotions, blaming, or controlling what someone thinks and feels. Unlike healthy guidance or support, psychological control can undermine a person’s independence, self-esteem, and emotional well-being by making them doubt their own judgment or feel overly responsible for others’ emotions. It’s a form of emotional influence that often involves restricting personal autonomy and can be harmful over time.
