Pseudomembranous colitis

Pseudomembranous colitis is an inflammation of the colon caused by an overgrowth of the bacteria Clostridium difficile, often after antibiotic use that disrupts normal gut bacteria. This condition leads to a build-up of inflamed tissue and plaque-like patches called pseudomembranes on the colon's surface. Symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, and sometimes blood in the stool. It requires medical treatment, typically antibiotics targeted at C. difficile. Proper management and infection control are important to prevent spread and complications.
