Proslavery Party
The Proslavery Party was a political movement in the 19th century, primarily in the United States, that supported and defended the institution of slavery. Members believed that slavery was legally, economically, and socially justified, often arguing that it was beneficial for both enslaved people and society. This party opposed abolitionist efforts and sought to preserve slavery as a core part of their economic and social order, especially in the Southern states. Their stance contributed to deepening divisions over slavery, which eventually led to the Civil War.
