Prolactinomas
Prolactinomas are benign tumors of the pituitary gland that produce excessive amounts of the hormone prolactin. This can lead to various symptoms, such as irregular menstrual cycles in women, infertility, and breast milk production when not pregnant or nursing. In men, it can cause reduced libido, erectile dysfunction, and breast enlargement. Prolactinomas are usually diagnosed through blood tests and imaging studies like MRI. Treatment typically involves medications that lower prolactin levels, and in some cases, surgery may be needed. With appropriate management, most individuals can lead normal, healthy lives.
