Prolactinoma

Prolactinoma is a benign tumor of the pituitary gland that produces excess amounts of the hormone prolactin. This overproduction can disrupt normal hormonal balance, leading to symptoms such as irregular or absent menstrual periods in women, infertility, and unwanted breast milk production. Men may experience decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, or enlarged breast tissue. Often, prolactinomas are small and grow slowly, but they can be effectively managed with medication that reduces prolactin levels and shrinks the tumor. In some cases, surgery or radiation may be necessary if medications are ineffective.
