Project Tango
Project Tango was an initiative by Google aimed at creating advanced smartphone technology that could understand and map the physical world in 3D. Launched in 2014, it combined specialized sensors and software to track motion and recognize surroundings, enabling applications like indoor navigation and augmented reality. Unlike traditional smartphones, which primarily rely on GPS and cameras, Tango provided a deeper spatial awareness, allowing devices to interpret the environment in real time. While the project has since evolved and influenced other technologies, its core innovation was in enhancing how devices interact with the world around them.
