Project Ozma
Project Ozma was a pioneering scientific effort conducted in 1960 by astronomer Frank Drake to search for extraterrestrial intelligent life. It involved using a powerful radio telescope to listen for deliberate signals from nearby stars, particularly Tau Ceti and Epsilon Eridani. The project aimed to detect signals that might indicate intelligent civilizations elsewhere in our galaxy. Although no extraterrestrial signals were found, Project Ozma established the foundation for future SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) efforts and demonstrated that listening for alien communications was scientifically feasible.
