Project Aquila
Project Aquila was an initiative by Facebook aimed at providing internet connectivity to remote areas using high-altitude drones. Launched in 2014, the project involved developing solar-powered drones that could fly at high altitudes for long periods, beaming internet signals to the ground. The goal was to bridge the digital divide, bringing online access to communities that lack infrastructure. Although the project faced technical challenges and was eventually discontinued in 2018, it highlighted innovative approaches to expanding global internet access and addressing communication disparities.
