President of Finland
The President of Finland is the head of state and plays a key role in the country’s political system. Elected for a six-year term, the president represents Finland internationally and oversees foreign policy, particularly in relations with Russia and the European Union. The president also appoints officials, can veto legislation, and plays a role in national security. While the president has significant ceremonial duties, Finland has a parliamentary system, so the Prime Minister is the head of government and holds most executive powers. Finnish democracy emphasizes cooperation between the president and parliament in governance.
